That was the impression I had growing up simply from watching my mom be her natural self. She’d offer her home to visitors from out of town to stay overnight, she took care of my cousins and raised some of them for years while one of my aunts was out of the country. She visited the sick, she counseled couples struggling with their marriage, she volunteered to lead special projects at school or church. She contributed financially to solve problems small and big! She always collected things that she would give away to the less fortunate, mostly clothes.
You may ask yourself if I am part of a cause. To tell you the truth, I’m part of several causes!
I find myself wanting to help the homeless, the veterans, youth, orphans, friends, family… I don’t always succeed but there’s a burning desire to add value to people just like my mom did.
I hope to inspire those around me to be givers and not takers…If you’re looking for a charity to help, there will be several opportunities through A Safe Haven Foundation, a homeless shelter that also helps veterans, transform their lives. Visit their website at www.asafehaven.org and check the events coming up…live a life of significance and make a difference in the world!
